Let's review how your Kipu EMR + Kipu RCM (Avea) configuration dictates patient profile and treatment episode creation.
New EMR Patient: New Patient Profile/New Treatment Episode
When you admit a patient for the first time to your Kipu EMR instance, this will automatically generate a new Patient Profile and related Treatment Episode in the related RCM Organization. This is the RCM Organization identified in the Konnector.
Existing EMR Patient: Existing Patient Profile/New Treatment Episode
When you re-admit a patient to any EMR Locations tied to an RCM Organization where the patient already has an existing profile, a new Treatment Episode will be created for the patient in their existing profile.
Existing EMR Patient: New Patient Profile/New Treatment Episode
When you re-admit a patient to an EMR Location tied to a different RCM Organization, a new Patient Profile, and related Treatment Episode will be created for the patient.
Expected Behavior Summary
The patient must be treated in EMR Locations integrated with RCM Practices tied to different Organizations to generate a new patient profile. Otherwise, the patient will have a single RCM patient profile with multiple treatment episodes.
- If the patient has received treatment in two EMR Locations tied to two different RCM Practices that are housed within the same Organization, the patient will have one patient profile with two treatment episodes (one for each EMR Location/Practice) in the RCM.
- This works the same way for instance using Bill by Building or Bill by Program. If the new program or building is tied to a Practice within the same RCM Organization as the original program/building, a new treatment episode under the existing patient profile will be generated in RCM.
- If the patient received treatment in two EMR Locations tied to two different RCM Practices in two different RCM Organizations, the patient will have two patient profiles with a single treatment episode each.
- This works the same way for instance using Bill by Building or Bill by Program. If the new program or building is tied to a different Organization than the original program/building, a new patient profile and treatment episode will be generated in the RCM.
