Patient Payments for Patients

This feature is currently in limited release to a select group of clients and will be rolling out to everyone in the coming months.

There are two methods by which you may access payment options in Kipu. The first is by accessing the Patient Portal. The second is through a Payment Link.

Paying Through the Patient Portal

For payments sent to you via the Patient Portal, start with this workflow.

  1. To begin, navigate to the My Payments tab of your portal and click Start Payment.
  2. Next, begin filling out the payment details. 

    1. Name on Card (required): Type in the name on the card. Ensure that it matches the card exactly, including any middle initial if present. 
    2. Email (optional): Enter an email address (this field is not required, but if you want a receipt, be sure to enter one)
    3. Send Receipt: When this box is checked, a receipt will be sent to the email entered above.
    4. Payment Description (optional): You can enter details about the payment if desired. 

Paying Through a Payment Link

For payments sent to you via a payment link, start with this workflow.

  1. To begin, click on the link sent to you by the facility.
  2. Enter the patient's birthdate using mm/dd/yyyy format and click Continue.
  3. Enter the payment amount, if needed, or simply click Start Payment if the amount is already specified.
  4. You will then be prompted to use a card, a linked bank account, or by electing to apply for financing through Sunbit.

Payment Options

There are three payment method options, pay with card, pay with linked bank account, and via Sunbit.

Pay with a Card

If you would like to pay using a card, follow these instructions.

  1. Add the card details or, if you anticipate needing to make multiple payments and want to save your payment info for future payments, create a new saved payment method. Stripe accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Diners, and Discover cards.

    1. Click the +Add new payment method button to create a saved payment method for this payer.
    2. If desired, set a nickname for this card. 
    3. Complete the card details, including card number, expiration date (MM/YY), security code, country, and zip code.
    4. Click Save Payment Method.
    5. Select the newly added payment method and click Submit Payment.
    1. The Pay with other payment method (Not saved) radio button will be selected by default when there are no saved payment methods.
    2. Enter the card number, expiration date (MM/YY), security code, country, and zip code.
    3. Click Submit Payment










       
  2. Enter your billing information. 
  3. Review the Payment Summary and click Confirm Payment to process.
  4. You'll receive a Payment Successful confirmation message with the related details including a confirmation number. 

Paying with Bank Transfer (ACH)

If you prefer to pay via bank transfer (ACH Direct Debit only) instead of by card, you can do so.

  1. Follow the steps above, but instead of entering credit card details, click on US bank account.
  2. Enter the email address and full name of the person paying.
  3. Next, search for the bank or click Enter bank details manually to manually enter the bank information.
  4. In the pop-up window, enter the routing number and account number, then confirm the account number. 

Sunbit Patient Financing

Sunbit is a financing option available exclusively through Kipu Payments that allows you to pay your balance over time while facilities receive payment immediately.

If your facility has enabled Sunbit, it will appear as a payment option in addition to standard payment methods such as credit card and bank transfer.

How Sunbit Works

If you choose to pay over time with Sunbit, follow the steps above. 

  1. Then choose Sunbit Pay Over Time and click Apply for Financing.
  2. Confirm that the payment information is correct, and click Apply for Financing again.
  3. Enter your phone number and choose Text Me or Call Me to receive your verification code by text or phone call and click Agree and Continue.
  4. Ener the verification code you received by text or phone call.
  5. Then enter and confirm the following information: 

    1. First and Last Name
    2. Address
    3. Date of Birth
    4. Email

    Then click Agree & check my options.

  6. Sunbit performs a soft credit check and presents available payment plans if approved.
  7. You will always see at least one 0% APR option for a 3-month plan, regardless of credit score. Choose the plan and click Continue to checkout.
  8. Enter your debit card information:

    1. Debit Card Number
    2. Expiration Date
    3. CVV number
    4. Choose the Monthly Recurring Payment method 

    Click Agree & continue

  9. Review the payment plan information and click Continue to checkout.
  10. Enter your Social Security Number. 
  11. Once again, review the plan information and click Authorize & complete purchase.
  12. Once you choose a plan, the facility receives payment within 24 hours. Sunbit will manage repayment with you. 
  13. Sunbit does not charge late fees, and you will only pay according to the terms agreed to during the set-up process. All payment-related management after this point will be between you and Sunbit, rather than with your facility or with Kipu.
