MAT Flags

There are patient flags specifically designed for MAT facilities, including Stop Dose, No-Show, and Random Drug Screen flags. These help staff monitor patient safety, compliance, and treatment progress.

Required Permissions: All staff can view patient flags. Users with User Functions enabled under Settings > Flags can add, resolve, and cancel them.

Access Patient Flags

To view or manage flags, first navigate to the patient’s chart.

  1. On the Patients tab, click on the desired patient tile.
  2. Open the Flags window to view all active flags on the chart.
  3. Resolve the patient's flags.

MAT Flag Types

MAT facilities use three key flag types: Stop Dose, No Show, and Random Drug Screen. Select a tab below to learn more about each type.

  • Stop Dose Flags

    The Stop Dosing flag prevents a patient from receiving MAT order doses when the flag is active. Staff cannot dispense medication until the flag is resolved or canceled. Any flag can be enabled with the Stop Dosing in MAT Flag Settings. You can assign multiple Stop Dosing flags to a single patient.

    Manually Assign a Stop Dose Flag

    1. Click the flag icon on the patient chart.
    2. Select the flag configured with the Stop Dosing setting from the Flag drop-down list. Names are configured by the facility Super Admin.
    3. Enter the Start Date, which indicates when the flag becomes active.
    4. Optionally, enter an End Date to automatically deactivate the flag.
    5. Complete the Comment field with a clear explanation.
    6. Click Assign.

    Note: You can only add or view flags tied to the User Functions enabled on your profile.

    After assigning the Stop Dosing flag:

    1. A stop icon appears next to the flag title.
    2. If the flag is configured as Critical in the Flag Settings, a flashing red badge appears on the patient tile, displaying the number of active critical flags.

    3. The Dispense button is disabled, and a red message appears stating, “Stop Dosing flag is present. Resolve flag to dispense.”
    4. Critical flags pop up automatically when staff open the patient’s chart. This behavior continues until the flag is resolved, canceled, or acknowledged by the staff.
    5.  Click the checkmark to resolve the flag.
    6. Type the resolution in the Resolution text box and click Resolve.
    7. If the flag was added in error, you can Cancel the flag.

    Once resolved, the system re-enables dosing functions in the MAT Order tab and Dosing Queue.

    Automatic Assignment of Stop Dosing Flag

    Stop Dosing flags can also be automatically generated based on system rules defined in Flag Settings. For example, flags can be triggered by a no-show event or missed dose threshold.

  • MAT No Show Flags

    The MAT No Show flag is system-generated and applied when a patient misses a set number of consecutive dosing days. It can include a stop-dosing requirement, if needed. Click here for information on creating and modifying MAT flags. 

    Recommendation: Configure No Show flags as Critical to enable red flashing alerts and automatic pop-ups when the chart is opened.

    If configured as both a No Show and Stop Dosing flag, the Dispense button will be disabled with the red alert: “Stop Dosing flag is present. Resolve flag to dispense.

    Resolving MAT No Show Flags

    System-generated flags can be resolved manually or automatically, depending on the configuration.

    Manual Resolution: Staff can manually resolve or cancel the flag from the Flags pop-up.

    • Click the Resolve icon on the flag.
    • Enter a resolution comment and click Resolve.
    • If the flag was added in error, you can Cancel the flag.

    MAT Order Resolution: The flag will be automatically resolved when a member of the medical staff changes the patient's MAT order.

    • From the MAT Order, click on the Change Order button.
    • Update the MAT order by filling up the required fields and click Submit.

    Once the flag is resolved, staff can resume normal dosing activities.

  • Lab Random Drug Screen Flag

    1. Open the patient’s chart, select the Lab Order tab, and click Create.
    2. In the Create Medical Test Orders window, select the ordering physician from the drop-down list.mceclip2.png
    3. If you are not the ordering physician, indicate how the order was communicated using the Select the via drop-down.
    4. Choose the desired test from Available Tests drop-down menu.
    5. Click on the Add button.
    6. Select the start date from the calendar.
    7. Select the desired frequency. from the drop-down list. Click here to learn how to set up lab order frequencies.
    8. Set the duration of the random tests.
    9. Then choose the primary diagnosis code from the Primary Dx Code drop-down. This field defaults to the first code recorded on the patient's facesheet. If that first code is changed, it will update accordingly. However, you can also choose a different recorded diagnosis code from the drop-down.
    10. You can also add as many secondary diagnosis codes as needed.
    11. Click Create.

    Lab Requisition Due / Random Drug Screen Analysis Flags

    The Lab Requisition Due flag is a system generated flag that is automatically assigned to the patient chart notifying staff members when a patient is due for a Random Drug Screen Analysis. This feature is available only for facilities connected to an integrated lab interface.

    Resolution Method Description
    Flag Window Staff can manually resolve or cancel the flag from the Flags pop-up.
    Lab Requisition Sent The flag resolves automatically once the lab requisition has been completed, signed, and transmitted to the integrated lab.
