Set up Location-specific settings for each of your MAT Locations including MAT Order settings, Unit Inventory, the Lighthouse Central Registry Integration, the Opioid Maintenance Therapy Report, Medication Label Instructions, and Medications.

Location Settings
In this section, you will be able to configure the settings for each location.
MAT Order
This section allows you to configure signature requirements and warnings for unreturned take-out bottles.
- Enable re-order signature: If this option is enabled, active MAT Orders will automatically prompt for renewal signatures at the specified frequency. This process is required for certain states that do not allow open-ended orders.
- Re-order frequency: Once the re-order signature checkbox is enabled, enter the default Re-order frequency e.g., enter 45 for every 45 days.
- Note: Upon enabling this feature, the system will require the physician to sign the order again after the entered number of days has passed. You can free-type the numbers or use the up and down arrows to adjust the number.
-
Warning for unreturned take-out bottles: If enabled, users will see the number of bottles that have not yet been returned to the facility when clicking on the Dispense Button. This option is important because it allows dispensing staff to see the number of bottles the patient is expected to return before they proceed to the dispensing step. Some facilities require patients to return previous take-home bottles prior to receiving their next set of doses based on their state requirements and internal protocols.
-
Example: When clicking on the Dispense button in the MAT orders tab from the patient’s chart or in the Queue section, the system will display a pop-up message indicating the patient has unreturned take-home bottles if the Returned Take Out Bottles field is not completed prior to dispensing.

Unit Inventory
The Unit Inventory settings allow the facility to prepare medications prior to the patient’s arrival to expedite services and decrease check-in and check-out times. Click here to learn more about Pre-pour Unit Inventory.
- Click on the Use Unit Dispensing? checkbox to enable the feature.
- Once you select this option, the system allows the following configuration per location:
-
- Use Unit Dispensing?: This feature allows a pharmacist, or licensed staff member, to prepare and pre-pour doses (units) in advance based on a patient’s future dosing schedules. Click here to learn more about preparing units assigned directly to patients.
- Include window doses when dispensing Unit Inventory?: This feature allows a pharmacist or licensed staff member to prepare and pre-pour doses (units) in advance.
- Dispense unassigned doses for expected patients: Prepared doses are stored as Unassigned in the safe and contain no patient identifiers. Use unassigned dosing when your facility packages medication by strength. For example, boxes of 2 mg, 4 mg, 8 mg instead of patient-specific bags. Click here to learn more about this functionality.
LightHouse Systems Central Registry Integration
When enabled, the Kipu EMR will automatically produce a .csv file each night that can be uploaded automatically to the Lighthouse Central Registry via SFTP. Once enabled, the system will prompt you to enter a Site ID in the field. The Lighthouse System Central Registry allows users to report the following medications: Buprenorphine, Methadone, Naltrexone, Probuphine, Sublocade, Subutex, Vivitrol, and Zubsolv.
Important: You must also enable the CID option in the instance settings to use this feature, this allows you to record the patient’s ID in Central Registry systems. The Central Registry will provide credentials, which must be configured in the Kipu EMR backend before files can be sent. Please contact a Kipu staff member specialized in MAT facilities to finalize the setup.
Additionally, a new tab will be added to the MAT settings tab that allows you to view information about the most recent file uploads.
Opioid Maintenance Therapy Report
This feature is specific to the State of Illinois. When enabled, the Kipu EMR will automatically produce a .csv file with dosing information which can then be uploaded. Once enabled, the system will prompt you to enter a Clinic Provider Number and Clinic Code.
Please contact a Kipu staff member specialized in MAT facilities to finalize the setup.
Medication Instructions for Labels
This section allows you to customize the instructions printed on the patient’s take-home bottles. Once enabled, you can create instructions based on state requirements.
- Medications: The system will display all the medications entered under the Medications Setting section configured by the facility.
- Instruction: Instructions can be customized for each configured MAT medication. Instructions are limited to 75 characters.
-
Note: If no customized instruction exists for a medication, the Default instructions will be printed on the label. You can customize the Default instructions using the Default row.
Medications
All medications that your facility plan to receive and dispense must be configured within the Medication tab prior to receiving inventory.
Only Medications configured in the Location Settings will display as options when creating MAT Orders, receiving New MAT medication, configuring Medication Combinations, or performing MAT Reconciliation.
