In this article, you will learn how to configure the automatic pump for dispensing liquid methadone in the EMR. This procedure must be completed for each pump before it can be used.
Required Permissions: Super Admins can perform pump setup under Settings > Konnectors. Users with the Manage Pump feature added to their user profile have access to settings for the Pump Konnector.
Pump Konnector
To configure a new Pump Konnector:
- To begin, click on your initials and then click Settings.
- Then click the Konnectors tab.
- Select + New Konnector.

Name the pump. This name will display on an external Queue Display. Note that names cannot contain special characters other than spaces, underscores, and hyphens.
- Note: Most facilities by window number as the name entered here will be the one announced to call patients to the window (if the facility uses a queue view screen) e.g., Window 1.
- Select Liquid Dispensing Pump from the Konnector type drop-down.
- Click Register.
- Ignore the error message for now.

In the new window, enter the following items:
- Company Name: Confirm the Konnector name previously entered.
- Use this Vendor: Select the checkbox to enable the pump.
- Contact Name: Enter the name of the Super Admin who set up the pump (optional).
- Contact Phone: Enter the phone number of the Super Admin who set up the pump (optional).

Pump Type: Select the desired pump type from the drop-down list. The options available to configure in Kipu are SciLog, Ivek Dispense, or Ivek Methaspense.

Pump Mode: Select Automatic from the Pump Mode drop-down. Select the manual option if the facility does not have automatic pumps.

Pump Location: Select your desired facility location to connect the pump.

Select the Medication associated with this pump (typically methadone HCl concentrate 10mg/ml).
- Ivek Methaspense only: Select a pump speed (25%, 50%, or 70%).
- Click Update to save.

Click on the Setup button on the computer connected to the pump to finalize the pump interface.

First setup only: Click Download to start the installation process for the .json server.
- This program facilitates the connection between the dispensing pump and Kipu EMR.
- Installs in C:\Kipu\SPJS on your computer
- Runs in the background
- Launches on startup
- If this program is NOT running, Kipu EMR will not be able to connect to the pump. Please navigate to C:\Kipu\SPJS on your computer and run the executable to restart the program.
- If this program is running, it will prevent a connection between the automatic pump and another EMR.
- This program facilitates the connection between the dispensing pump and Kipu EMR.

Once the .json server is running, the pump screen should update to show a panel with the pump details (users may need to refresh the browser):
- Click Test Connection. If successful, you will receive a message stating “Pump Test Successful. Please click on Update to save settings.”
- Click Update to enable the pump on this workstation. You must click Update otherwise the Pump tab will not be saved.
Important:
- Each dispensing user will need to navigate to Settings > Integrations > Konnectors and click the Test Connection button on the pump once before the Pump screen will appear in the menu. Click here for instructions.
- If the Test Connection fails, please ensure that the pump cables are securely connected to both the pump controller and computer. The user may also need to adjust the COM port if the default selection is not correct.
- If Test Connection fails, but the pump is still accepting some commands such as prime or empty, power cycling the pump may resolve the issue.
Liquid Dispensing Pump Konnectors
When viewing the list of Liquid Dispensing Pumps connected to the Kipu EMR, you can quickly see key information.
- Name: This is the name of the konnector.
- Location: This is the EMR location that the pump is setup in.
- Pump Type: This displays the type of pump.
- Pump Mode: This displays the pump mode (automatic or manual).
- Pump Medication: This displays the medication that has been set up for the pump.
- Hostname-port: Review the connection for the pump.
- Last Modified By/Date: Review who last modified the pump and the related date/time.
- Status: This toggle allows you to quickly disable or enable a pump.

Actions: You can Edit, Setup, or Delete pumps directly from these action buttons.
- Note: If a pump konnector has been used, you will no longer be able to delete it. Instead, disable it if the konnector is no longer in use.
