Super Admins can configure the label printers for facility use. The label printer allows you to print window labels and take-home labels to identify the medication bottles.
- Supported Drivers: Dymo or Dymo Connect
- Supported Printers: DYMO 450, DYMO 450 Turbo, DYMO 550, and DYMO 550 Turbo
User Permissions: Super Admins and users with Manage Pump added to their user profile can configure MAT Label Printers.
Label Printer Setup
Before plugging in and setting up the printer, you must first determine the model of your printer and your computer's operating system.
Then open your computer’s browser and navigate to https://www.dymo.com/compatibility-chart.html. Then locate and click on the link in the compatibility chart to download and complete the installation.
- To begin, click on your initials and then click Settings.
- Then click the MAT tab.
- The Settings section opens by default..
- Select the Use Label Printer checkbox to turn on the label printer integration.
- Select the correct Label Printer Driver based on the model of the printer.
- 550 Models: Select dymo_connect
- 450 Models: Select dymo or dymo_connect
550 Models
- If using a 550 model printer, select Dymo connect from the drop-down menu. You must use the same printer driver in all locations so if your facility has a mix of 450 and 550 models, you must choose dymo_connect as the dymo option is not compatible with 550 printers.
- Note: Kipu EMR does not offer individual printer driver set up per location.
- Next, click on the label icon to select the printer, test the connection, and print a test label.
- From the Takeout Label window, you can:
- Select the Printer from the drop-down menu.
- Click on Test Printer to print a test label.
- Click on the Print button to print labels.
- View the Label Preview to review the information.
Benefits from Dymo Connect for the medication labels:
- The label's format displays the medication in capital letters.
- Includes the dispensing nurse's initials, strength per dosing unit, and unique serial number.
- The label's format includes the total quantity dispensed in each bottle/wrapper.
-
The Warning showing on the labels reads: “Warning: State and Federal law prohibit transfer of this drug to any person other than the person for whom it was prescribed.”
Bulk Label Details
-
Bulk labels are strength-based and include information aggregated across the doses included in the dispensing screen. Review the label example below:
- Medication: Format as [Strength] [Medication name] – [Dosage Form]. In this example, 2–0.5 mg BUPRENORPHINE HCL – NALOXONE HCL.
- Dosage Form: Shown next to the medication name. In this example, tablet sublingual.
- Doses: Number of doses each bottle for that strength. In this example, 6.
- Start On: Date of the first take-out dispensed in the batch. In this example, 10/11/2025
- Quantity: How many films/tablets are in each bottle for that strength. In this example, 18.
450 Models
- If your facility is only using the 450 model printer, select dymo or dymo_connect from the drop-down menu. You must use the same printer driver in all locations so if your facility has a mix of 450 and 550 models, you must choose dymo_connect as dymo is not compatible with 550 models.
- Kipu EMR does not offer individual printer driver setup per location.
- Next, click on the label icon to select the printer, test the connection, and print a test label.
- From the Takeout Label window, you can:
- Select the Printer from the drop-down menu.
- Click on Test Printer to print a test label
- Click on the Print button to print labels.
- View the Label Preview to review the information.
Advanced Troubleshooting
Dymo Connect Web Services for Non-Admin Computer Users
Users who are not Administrators of their computer may encounter an issue that requires the Dymo Connect Web Service to be run as an administrator to print labels correctly from the Kipu EMR. To resolve this issue, please follow these instructions.
Label Printer for the Labs
If your Kipu Instance has a Lab Interface, make sure to contact a Kipu staff member to configure your lab label printer to use the same driver as the one used for the MAT medications.
