Pre-Admission Best Practice Workflows Overview

  • Updated

During the pre-admission stage, Business Development or Intake Specialists identify potential patients, screen them for suitability, and provide the prospective patient with initial information about the facility’s programming. In smaller facilities, this step may be completed by a program director or other member of the executive team. This phase is a critical step in the treatment process.

Using Kipu, facilities can streamline the pre-admission process, making it more efficient and accurate helping patients get the help they need in a timely and effective manner. Let’s review the processes for the Pre-Admission Stage.

Important: This process only describes the pre-admission process for clients not using a CRM.

There are five main stages in the Pre-Admission Workflow:

  1. A patient shows interest in receiving treatment
  2.  They complete a Preliminary Screening Assessment
  3. They complete a Pre-Admission Assessment form
  4. Contact is made with the patient, or patient contacts, to coordinate admission
  5. The patient is cleared for admission by the provider

Best Practice Workflow

Pre-admission charts do not require a Medical Record Number, allow facilities to collect patient information, and track potential patients from the initial point of contact, through verification of benefits, assessment, and arrangement for admission.

A medical record number is specific to an episode of care. An episode of care is everything that takes place from pre-admission through discharge. Once a patient is discharged, a new episode of care will be created if the patient returns.
