The ordering physician can quickly sign off on lab orders and lab results from the Dashboard, the patient chart, or the Lab Reports tab.
Signing Permissions
Please note the following permissions for signing off on lab orders and results.
- Lab Orders: The ordering physician can only sign off on their own lab orders. No other provider can sign off on orders initiated by another provider.
- Lab Results: Users with the role of doctor and a valid National Provider Identifier (NPI) can sign off on lab results, regardless of who ordered the tests or who the result belongs to.
Dashboard (Recommended)
We recommend signing Lab Orders and Lab Results using the Physician Review tab on the Dashboard.
Signing Lab Orders Video
Sign Lab Orders
- Open the Dashboard tab and select Physician Review.
- This opens the My Orders tab. Click on Medical Test Orders to sign Lab Orders.
- Review the list of requested and/or discontinued lab orders assigned to your NPI.
Bulk Sign Orders
- To sign off on all orders click the Review all button next to the search bar.
- Add a note (as needed) and sign the order.
Important: When the "Hide Review all Negative" Button is enabled in settings, the provider will not see the Review all Negative button.
Individually Sign Orders
- If you'd like to individually approve orders, click on the Description.
- Click Review.
- If desired, scroll to the bottom of the order and add an annotation (for specific instructions, see our article on annotations).
- Add a note (as needed) and sign the order. Click Submit.
Signing Lab Results Video
Sign Lab Results
- Open the Dashboard tab and select Physician Review.
- This opens the My Orders tab. Click on Lab Reports to sign Lab Orders.
- You can bulk sign off on all negative results by clicking Review all negatives.
- Add a note (as needed) and sign the order. Click Submit.
- Results with items to review must be signed individually. Click on the Specimen to review the results.
- Abnormal results will be listed under the Highlighted Results section.
- When ready to sign, click Review at the top of the report.
- Add a note (as needed) and sign the order. Click Submit.
- Click Next on the top right of the screen to navigate to the next result that needs to be reviewed and signed.
Patient Chart
Lab Orders and Lab Results can also be signed from the patient chart.
- To sign off on the order or result open the appropriate tab and click on the Order/Result.
- Select Review at the top of the page. Then, add an optional note, sign, and submit.
Lab Report Tab (Results Only)
You can sign off on individual results from the Labs Reports section of the Labs tab. For more information on the Lab Reports tab, see the Lab Reports article.
- Open the Labs tab and select Lab Reports.
- This list contains all results (signed, unsigned, and unmatched).
- To sign off on a result the physician would open the Assigned result by clicking on the Specimen.
- Click Review at the top of the page.
- Add an optional note, sign, and submit.
Requisitions
Important: Once the lab report is received, the associated requisition will change colors on the Req list.
