Patients Statuses

Create custom Patient statuses that allow you to assign items such as a pass, special privileges, curfews, etc., to the patient chart.

Statuses are visible from the patient chart, dashboard, occupancy view, and bed board

Set up Patient Statuses

Super Admins can complete the following setup steps.

Instance Settings

  1. Click on your initials and select Settings.
  2. Open the Instance tab and locate the Patient Statuses settings. Tip: use Ctrl + F (Windows) or Cmd + F (Mac) to search Statuses on the page.mceclip0.png
  3. Check the box for Use Patient Statuses.mceclip0.png
  4. Scroll to the end of the page and click Submit to save your changes. 

Create Patient Statuses

Next, let's review how to create statuses from the Patients tab.

  1. Click on your initials and select Settings.
  2. Open the Patients tab. This is the first tab within the settings menu and may have a different name e.g., Clients, depending on your setup.  
  3. Locate the Patient Statuses section. mceclip3.png
  4. To add a new status, click Add item. 
  5. Name the status. This appears as a button on the facesheet, so be specific and brief. mceclip4.png
  6. Use the Color menu to select a color. This color appears as the outline/text of the pass button when added to the patient record on the patients page, dashboard, and occupancy views.mceclip5.png
  7. Use the checkbox options to determine pass behavior.mceclip6.png
    • Start Date: This adds a start date field on the patient chart, allowing you to indicate when the status should start. If included, the user must add a start date to successfully add the status. 
    • Show days elapsed: This is the number of days the patient has been in the status.
    • End date: This adds an end date field to the patient chart, allowing you to set an expiration date for the status. If checked, the user must add an end date to successfully add the status.  
    • Clear after end date: Check this box to automatically remove the status from the patient when the status has expired based on the end date.  
  8. Next, include the Items in the text box. Each item added will appear as a drop-down for selection on the patient chart when the status is added. Be sure to add a | between each item or you'll only have one long item in the drop-down.  mceclip7.png
  9. Click Update after adding each status to save.

Assigning Patient Statuses

When creating or editing a patient chart, users can assign one or more statuses. Statuses can be added or changed at any time.

  1. Open the patient chart and click Edit Patient. mceclip10.png
  2. Click on a status button to add the status. mceclip8.png
  3. Use the drop-down to select one of the items defined during setup.  mceclip9.png
  4. Complete the Start and End dates if available for the chosen status. mceclip17.png
  5. You can add as many statuses to the patient chart as needed. mceclip18.png
  6. Use the X to clear any statuses not set up with automatic expiration.

Viewing Patients Statuses

You can view the patient's status in the following locations:
