Inventory: Unit Inventory Dispensing Overview (MAT)

  • Updated

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs must follow strict medication handling requirements, which vary by state. Many facilities prepare medication in advance by pre-pouring weekly doses based on each patient’s expected MAT order. The Unit Inventory module streamlines this process by allowing facilities to prepare, store, and dispense medications in single-dose units, improving safety, compliance, and workflow efficiency.

With Unit Inventory, facilities can pre-pour doses before patients arrive, reduce wait times, and dispense medication quickly. Depending on the location’s configuration, units may be assigned to patients at the time of dispensing or prepared as unassigned units based on expected patient volume.

Required Permissions: Super Admins, pharmacists, and users with the Manage Inventory feature have access to this workflow. Pharmacists will need Manage Inventory and Manage Pump access (if their facility dispenses medication via pump) for complete usage.

Enabling Unit Inventory

MAT Settings determine whether a location prepares and dispenses unassigned unit doses. Before using Unit Dispensing, you must enable Use Unit Dispensing in Settings > MAT > Location Settings. Click here to learn more.

Key Benefits

  • Faster patient flow at check-in and check-out.
