Kipu Payments: Overview

This feature is currently in limited release to a select group of clients and will be rolling out to everyone in the coming months.

The Kipu Payments feature, built in partnership with Stripe, allows users to collect patient payments in the EMR. To use Kipu Payments, you must create a Stripe account through the Kipu integration, even if your facility has a legacy Stripe account connected to the EMR. 

Creating a Stripe account through Kipu is free and usually takes only a few minutes. However, the user who creates the account must be a Super Admin user and have access to the financial verification information required to verify the Stripe account (Tax ID, verification documents, etc.).

In addition to collecting payments, a Stripe account allows users to:

• Handle any payment disputes 
• Update bank information
• View transaction history and payout information 

How the Integration Works

1. A Super Admin user sets up the integration settings and bank account information.
2. The patient is billed and their billing information is collected.
3. The data is sent to Stripe, who collects and encrypts it.
4. Stripe processes the payment, applying all necessary security checks and fees.
5. The payment amount (minus transaction costs) is added to your payout balance.
6. Your funds are transferred to the associated account at intervals based on your payout structure.

When payments are sent from Kipu to Stripe, to protect privacy, only information required to accurately link transactions to the dashboard is included. 

At the present time, payments can only be made and received in USD.

Before patients can make payments and your facility can receive them through Stripe, you will need to set up a Stripe account 

1. Account Management and Onboarding: Create account, add and manage business information, account representatives, owners, connected bank accounts, verification, etc.
   • Enabling and Setting up Patient Payments 
   • Editing Management and Ownership Information
2. Payment Lists, Payouts, Disputes, Payment Methods, Payment Summary (Kipu)
   • View all payments made
   • View and schedule payouts
   • View and work payment disputes
   • View and edit payment methods
