Technical Requirements

  • Updated

The Kipu EMR is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) application accessible by a web browser. The application requires a current web browser and Internet access.

Supported Browsers

The following browser versions are recommended for better Kipu EMR performance:

PC and Mac Tablets Mobile
  • Kipu supports major web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) and recommends using their latest version for optimal security and performance.
  • Apple Safari, most recent stable version (at least version 14+)
  • Mobile support is currently in discovery.

For optimal performance, the browser must have JavaScript and cookies enabled (these are default settings). If you are using a different browser or version and experience problems, please switch to one of the above. If you have a specific device that you would like supported, please let us know and we will make every effort to help you.

Kipu provides current census and bed information, as a Bed Board, optimized for TVs with an integrated web browser. This display refreshes automatically and is optimized for HD resolution (1920x1080 pixels). We currently recommend TVs with integrated or external Google TV, which uses the Chrome web browser. Kipu supports signature capture on touch screens, USB signature pads, and any standard input device. . Click here to learn more, or contact us for current models.

Internet Connection

The Kipu EMR requires internet access. Your bandwidth needs will vary depending on the number of concurrent Kipu users and internet usage. We suggest a business connection with upload speeds of at least 25 mbps download and 3 mbps upload, preferably higher. We strongly recommend installing a backup internet connection at your facility for redundancy in case your main line goes down.

If you do not have a redundant Internet connection, there are many options for adding it to your network. Here are a few:

  • You can use a router with a cellular 4G/LTE and 5G backup connection built-in or available as a USB add-on for select routers
  • You can add a wireless Ethernet bridge to your network and connect it to a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot
  • If you already have a firewall, it usually supports multiple internet connections for failover out of the box. Just add a consumer-grade DSL or cable connection from a different provider. Try not to use the same technology as your current internet connection, as different providers might use the same infrastructure in your building: backup a cable connection with DSL or vice versa.
  • Use a ‘Dual WAN” router.
  • If you are using mostly tablets with Kipu, pre-paid mobile hotspots might be sufficient for emergencies.
