How to Locate the Patient Master UUID in Kipu's HL7 File

  • Updated

Issue

I'm trying to find the Patients Master UUID, also known as the Patient Identification (PID.3) segment. When looking at the HL7 file that I downloaded from Kipu, where can I find this information?

Environment

Kipu EMR, Billing Report > Batches, HL7 Download

Resolution

  1. Navigate to Reports > Billing > Batches.
  2. Use the report filters to find the batch with the patient you need.
  3. Click Download HL7 once you’ve located the right batch.
  4. Open the downloaded file in a text editor like Notepad.
  5. Use CTRL+F to search for the patient’s name.
  6. Your search should lead you to a section starting with PID in the HL7 file.
  7. In the PID segment, count three fields or segments after the PID section. This is where you will find the Patient Master UUID (also known as PID.3).

You’ve successfully located the Patient Master UUID (PID.3) in Kipu’s HL7 file. This identifier is crucial for connecting patient data across episodes of care and ensuring accurate record-keeping.
