Autocomplete Service: ICD-10 Codes

  • Updated

The Diagnosis (ICD-10) Autocomplete Service offers the complete ICD-10 database of diagnoses for selection in any patient diagnosis field. The service also automatically indicates which codes are complete (billable) or incomplete.

  5. If you also want to use DSM-5 verbiage, activate the complete list by enabling the DSM-5: Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders checkbox on this list.
  6. Click OK
  7. If you want to prevent your users from selecting incomplete codes, check the Use specific codes only box. This is helpful for ensuring only billable diagnosis codes can be added to the patient. Check out the section below to learn more. mceclip3.png
  8. Scroll to the end of the page and click Submit to save your changes.

Valid/Invalid ICD-10 Diagnoses

ICD-10 diagnoses are considered invalid if they have not been coded to the full amount of characters required for that code. In other words, an invalid diagnosis is an incomplete diagnosis. For this reason, many people use the terms “billable codes” and “valid codes” interchangeably.

To help avoid denials or delays in coverage and reimbursements, enabling the Use specific codes only feature as described above ensures that users cannot select an incomplete code.

It's also helpful to train your staff to define each diagnosis in the greatest detail possible. To support this, the diagnosis autocomplete list visually distinguishes between valid diagnoses (black font) and invalid diagnoses (gray font).
