Autocomplete Service: Insurance List

  • Updated

The Kipu EMR cultivates an extensive and continuously growing list of payors checked against all major insurance clearinghouses. This process provides the most accurate and up-to-date payor list available. We recommend enabling the Kipu Insurance List to simplify third-party system communication like Lab Interfaces, billing solutions, and benefits verification with VOBGetter.

Enable Insurance List

  1. Click on your initials and select Settings.
  2. Open the Instance tab.
  3. Under Autocomplete Services, check the Kipu Insurance Service box. mceclip0.png
  4. Facesheet insurance selection: This setting is only available when the Kipu Insurance Service is enabled. Select one of the following from the drop-down: mceclip1.png
    • Allow free-typed insurances: Allows the user to select the insurance from autocomplete (including payors configured under Settings > Payors) or free type a custom insurance of their choice.
    • Allow free-typed insurances and add them to custom payors list: Allows the user to select the insurance from autocomplete (including payors configured under Settings > Payors) or type any custom insurance of their choice. When the user types in a custom text, the system will prompt them to choose whether they want to add this as a new option to Settings > Payors or not. We recommend this setting only for clients using a Lab interface without an integrated Billing interface (e.g., CMD, Avea, or HL7).
    • Only allow insurances from autocomplete: Require users to select the insurance from the autocomplete list only. Super Admin can add custom options to the insurance autocomplete under Settings > Payors if needed.
    • Only allow insurances from custom payors list: This requires users to select insurance from one of the options configured under Settings > Payors. This option is recommended for all clients with CollaborateMD integrated billing.
  5. Scroll to the end of the page and click Submit to save your changes.

Customizing Insurance List

Easily assign the internal shortcodes you already use to commonly used insurances (e.g. BCBSFL for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida). Click here for instructions. You can also add plan type, payer type, phone number, and payer address (only if your instance has an active lab interface).

When entering the insurance on the patient chart, search by name, shortcode, or insurance ID (Below the shortcode is in red). Any fields filled out in the Add/Edit Payer window will auto-populate.

In the Insurance Verification form, the “bill to” address you enter will also be offered as suggestions the next time you use the same payor. If you have saved more than one address for a payor, all of those will appear. The addresses are kept within your instance and not shared in any way.

Integrated Billing: Users integrated with CollaborateMD should use these instructions when setting up their payors list to ensure proper billing.
