Issue
An outside party, such as an auditor, insurance provider, or state accreditor, is requesting access to the EMR and I need to know what to do.
Environment
Kipu EMR, Users: External Roles, Create a User
Resolution
To allow an outside party access to the EMR, a Super Admin will need to create a user profile and assign them an appropriate role.
- Begin by navigating to the Manage Users page.
- Click New User.
- Enter the external party’s first name, last name, email address, and if applicable, assign them to the necessary location.
- Next, assign them one of the following external roles.
-
Auditor: The Auditor role is intended for your accrediting agency’s inspector/surveyor and only allows access to patient charts.
-
Pharmacist: The Pharmacist role is intended for your pharmacy vendor, allowing pharmacists to review new and discontinued orders, as well as patients who are newly admitted or about to be discharged.
-
Utilization Review External: The UR External role allows authorized representatives from insurance providers to review key patient chart information related to insurance case(s). Click here to learn more about setting up the system for UR External users.
-
Lab Liaison: The Lab Liaison role allows external lab representative(s) to review requisitions, results, and orders related to the integration with the lab they represent. Click here for additional information on External Roles and their access.
-
Note: When your facility uses the UR External feature, an internal user (Super Admin or a user with Manage Utilization Review) needs to set up the UR External user's access to the EMR and patient records. Click here to learn more.
-
-
- Do not assign an external party any features or functions.
- Click Register & Invite to create the user profile and invite the user to your EMR.
- When they no longer need access, return to their user profile and select the Disable User? box.
