How Do I Restrict a Patient's Chart From a Specific User in an Instance?

  • Updated

Issue

I need to restrict one of my staff from being able to see a specific patients chart.

Environment

Kipu EMR, Role: Super Admin, Features: Manage Users, Manage Users Page

Resolution

  1. Select your Initials in the top right corner and click Manage Users
  2. Under Active Users, locate the user profile that you need to restrict from viewing a patient's chart and select Edit.

  3. Scroll down through the user's profile to the Restricted Patients section near the bottom of the page.

  4. If the user already has chart restrictions, you must click the Load Restricted Patients button to edit the current list or add additional chart restrictions.

    • If the user does not have current restrictions, you can simply start typing in the search bar.

  5. If the user only needs to to be restricted from viewing one patient's file begin typing the patient's name or MR# in the empty field, select the patient, and then select the Update button.
  6. If the user only needs access to the forms of patients whose care teams they are on, check the box for Restrict all patients except for Caseload then select the Update button.

Cause

These restrictions are used to protect patient privacy and are useful in many scenarios ranging from treating VIP clients, hiring former patients, or treating employee family members.
