A protocol is a set of standard medications, PRNs, tapers, and action orders you can group together and assign to a patient in one click. Before you can create a protocol, you must have at least one Medication Order and Action Order set up, or you will not have any options to add to the protocol.
Required Permissions
Only Super Admins and users with the Manage Templates or Manage Templates - Orders permissions can access and create templates.
- To begin, click on Templates > Orders > Protocols.
- Type in the name of the protocol you'd like to filter by, and select it from the drop-down.
- Set the toggle to OR to filter by templates that use the OR condition or to AND to filter by templates that use the AND condition.
Creating a Protocol Template
- From the Protocols tab, click on the + New Protocol button.
- Enter the name of the protocol, and click the Add button.
- Once in the Edit Protocol window, you will see the following.
- Locations: If you have a master instance, you can use the checkboxes under the location names to enable the protocol for some (or all) of your locations.
- Name: While you can name the protocol anything you like, it is best practice to give it a name that clearly indicates what it does.
- Enabled: Check this box to make the protocol available for use.
- Medication Orders: Select the desired medication orders (under Tapers, PRNs, and Other) and action orders you wish to include as part of the protocol by clicking on the checkboxes.
- Once you have added all your desired options, click on the Save button.
